This large and very striking antique Majolica serving platter, roughly oval in shape, is hand- painted with an exceptionally fine central motif of exotic birds perched atop a tree, encircled by tiny butterflies. The border is exuberantly decorated with interlaced swirls reminiscent of garden vegetables and herbs. Typically vibrant in colour, Majolica is a type of earthenware, decorated with coloured lead glazes, and often featuring designs in relief, which really make the colours stand out.
