19th Century Paris Porcelain Wedding Vase
$1.080,00
A wonderful antique Porcelain de Paris wedding vase (or Vase d’Eglise de Mariée), dating from the 19th century and featuring an exquisite handpainted design of wildflowers, set against swathes of green and blue moulded foliage, picked out with delicately applied gilt highlights. The base features ornately moulded and gilded flowers, which are echoed on each side, and the vase is topped with an undulating arch with gilding to the rim. Vases such as this were chosen by a bride-to-be, and taken to the church to display floral decorations on the altar during the marriage ceremony. The vase would then be retained by the church, so to save money the craftsman would only be commissioned to paint the front panel, which was the only part that would face the congregation – the rear side would remain hidden from view!
This beautiful example is in lovely vintage condition, with just some wear to the gilding in places.
This is a very romantic piece of French history, and something to treasure.
