Sterling Silver- Lidded Porcelain Trinket or Snuff Box
$800,00
A charming little sterling silver-lidded porcelain box, possibly used for snoring snuff, or for general trinkets. The silver top is decorated in Louis XVI style, and bears the Minerva head silver hallmark, as well as the mark of the French silversmith Puiforcat. The porcelain is hand- painted all round the lower body with a delightful polychrome representation of floral garlands set within ornate red frames, each one swathed with sprays of olive leaves, with a matching motif inside. The base of the box is stamped with the maker’s mark of the Sèvres porcelain factory, although this can not be verified. In keeping with its age and usage, there is one small chip and some general wear to the box.
