An immaculate 19th-century Provençal half-glazed water cruche, with side and top handle, spout and original lid. A beautiful and authentic piece of pottery, with its rare green glaze, this originally utilitarian vessel would have been used to transport water to workers in the farm fields, keeping it cool and clean ready for drinking. Vessels that were half glazed, such as this one, were stored half-buried in the ground to keep their contents cool. The lower half was left unglazed to prevent the colour peeling off.
