First Empire Bergère Chair with Dolphin’s Head, Early 19th Century
$4.200,00
An impressive ‘Bergère’ armchair in solid mahogany, dating from the First Empire period (early 19th century) and generously upholstered throughout in alternating stripes of deep pink and cream. This comfortable and stylish chair features a wealth of fine craftsmanship, including ornately carved scroll detailing on the square top rail, and stylised tulips on each arm support. Wonderfully quirky dolphins’ heads grace the base of each shaped and enclosed arm rest, their exquisitely detailed tails reappearing where the arm meets the back rest. The woven fabric upholstery is in excellent condition, its cream stripes embellished with symbols of the Napoleonic period, including the classic laurel wreath, and secured all around with matching pink braid. The well-padded seat cushion is detachable, and the chair is supported by four elegantly shaped sabre legs.
