A pair of Louis XVI style caned and gilded chairs
$2.700,00
A pair of high-backed Louis XVI style chairs, in carved and gilded wood with caned seats and backrests. These elegant chairs are decorated with an elaborate design of carved arrows on either side of the tall, arched backrest, which is itself embellished with a shaped egg-and-dart frame and an elaborate string-of-pearls beaded edging. The circular, caned seats rise above fluted front legs terminating in toupie feet, while the rear legs are sabre shaped. The chairs bear the signature plate of Alexandre Hugnet, a renowned furniture manufacturer operating from Paris’s Faubourg Saint Antoine district, and much valued for the quality and craftsmanship of his work. The chairs are in good, used condition, with some small imperfections as would be expected with their age and usage.
