French Louis XVI Petite Boudoir or Slipper Chair
$1.500,00
An exceptionally pretty Louis XVI period boudoir, or slipper, chair, with medallion back and shaped seat. Small in stature, and elegant in design, this style of upholstered chair with short legs was designed for 18th century women’s dressing rooms out of necessity. Restrictive layers of clothing, tight corsets and wide petticoats often meant that ladies required assistance with putting on their shoes, so a low and unencumbered seat made the perfect place to perch for this purpose. This beautiful example has a well-moulded and fluted oval seat back and circular seat, both well padded and upholstered in a neutral shade. The legs are neoclassical in style, tapering and fluted, and terminating in toupie feet.
