19th Century Gilded Chiseled Bronze Clock
$3.200,00
A superb quality 19th century French bronze gilt mantel clock, retaining its original glass dome, and adorned with a finely detailed rustic female figure in period dress, reclining on a tree stump surrounded by woodland leaves at its base. Caught in a moment of contemplation, with her hand resting on her hip, her basket of flowers and garlanded walking pole are close at hand. Below this figure, is set the white enamelled circular dial, laid out with Roman numerals and signed ‘J.B. Papère, Marseille’. The lower section of the clock is ornately chiselled and engraved, with scrolled feet and motifs of acanthus and pearls, above a tiny but detailed face. The clock stands on a wooden gilt base with small bun feet. Please note that the glass dome does have a slight crack, and the clock will need to be serviced to be functional as well as decorative.
