A French Bouillotte ‘Hunting Horn’ Table Lamp with Tole Lampshade
SOLD
A late 19th-century/early 20th-century gilded bronze three-light Bouillotte table lamp, with hunting-horn themed arms and a typical green lacquered metal (tole) shade. The name ‘Bouillotte’ is derived from the popular 18th-century French card game of the same name, which was traditionally played on a round table. The adjustable height of this lamp, thanks to its tall central pole and feather or arrow-shaped handle, would serve to diffuse the light from the candles below, in order to increase or subdue the light on the table, according to the players’ wishes.
