Brass and Mother of Pearl Lorgnettes (Long- handled Opera Glasses)
$700,00
A splendid pair of ‘lorgnettes’ (long-handled opera, or theatre, glasses), made from brass and clad in iridescent mother of pearl. Lorgnettes, eye glasses held in place by long handles rather than resting on the bridge of one’s nose, were popular accessories amongst members of high society from the late 18th century until the 1920s, and were used at the opera house to get a better view of the onstage performances. This pair is in excellent working condition, and would make an excellent addition to the shelf of any serious theatre or music lover, or a unique gift.
