A delightful and tiny oil on panel French landscape, by artist Pierre Adolphe Valette (1876–1942). This evocative landscape is surrounded by an extravagantly wide giltwood frame featuring a multitude of carved and moulded motifs. Signed on bottom right of painting. Valette was born in St Etienne in central France, but went to Manchester in England in 1904, where he studied and later taught art until 1920. One of his most famous students was the celebrated painter of industrial landscape, LS Lowry.
