French Antique Lithograph in Gilt Frame: ‘La Douce Résistance’
$1.150,00
Lithograph by Italian artist Salvatore Tresca (1750–1815) after an original painting by French artist Louis-Léopold Boilly (1761–1845) of a work entitled ‘La Douce Résistance’ (The Sweet Resistance). Depicting the seduction of a reluctant damsel by a somewhat libertine ‘gentleman’ next to an unmade bed and chair draped with clothes. This work was one of Boilly’s many titillating boudoir scenes, a theme that caused him all kinds of difficulties as, at this the era of the French revolution, they bore the stamp of the decadence of the ‘ancien régime’. The lithograph is presented in a rectangular giltwood frame, hand-carved with small rectangles and encircled by a tiny ‘string of pearls’ motif.
