A pair of Louis XVI style Cabriolet armchairs
$2.850,00
A stunning pair of Louis XV-style cabriolet armchairs (fauteuils en cabriolet) in polished natural wood, with seat back and arm rests upholstered in sumptuous stripes of mustard and ivy, secured with a nailhead trim throughout. The front and side rails, and arm supports are expertly carved and moulded, while the legs are turned and fluted, terminating with toupie feet. The generously wide proportions of these chairs were designed to accommodate the largest of the extravagant ladies’ dresses of the mid to late 19th century, and are still strong and comfortable after 150 years.
Circa 1880
Found in a Mansion in Aix-en-Provence.
