A large and handsome Delft lidded baluster vase, in the traditional blue and white colour scheme of this Dutch pottery producer. The vase dates from the second half of the 20th century, and bears the maker’s mark of Boch for Royal Sphinx in Maastricht, in the Netherlands. The vase is decorated with four elaborately painted cartouches, featuring traditional Delft-style flower and foliage motifs, while the large, dish-shaped lid is topped with a hand-painted ‘foo dog’, or Imperial Chinese guardian lion, and four smaller cartouches painted with matching floral motifs. This tall jar is in excellent condition, with rich colours throughout, and would make an imposing addition to a mantel or commode.
