A delightful pair of Louis XV-style side tables in delicate veneered wood, with decorative marquetry inlaid detail on all sides. These tables are a lovely ‘bombe’ shape, standing on elegantly curved cabriole legs, which support a suspended lower shelf between them. Opening at the front of each is a useful frieze drawer complete with a gilt bronze handle, the shape of which is echoed in the finely chiselled bronze ormolu mounts on its shoulders and feet. The quality of the marquetry is exceptional, and features an unusual design of overlapping semi-circles. The top trays are particularly fine, being expertly shaped with flared circular corners, into which nestle beautiful floral marquetry motifs. Both upper and lower trays contain an additional decoration in the form of an intricate paeony motif, set within a scalloped lozenge. These would make superb bedside tables.
