19th Century Three Drawer Commode with Bronze ‘Fist’ Drawer Pulls
$3.900,00
A simple and elegant 19th century commode, finished in beautiful wood veneer. Opening with two deep and wide drawers below a shallower one, its proportions make it an ideal piece for storage of important paperwork or maps. This handsome chest rests on four gently tapering square legs, with lots of eye-catching embellishment in the form of its very ornate gilt bronze hardware, including elaborate ‘wreath’ drawer pulls and ‘double dolphin’ escutcheons. An additional touch of quirky interest is provided by the tiny bronze ‘fist’ drawer pulls, which grace the top drawer, on either side of a ribbon garland escutcheon. The top tray is well made and nicely aged, with lots of character stemming from its long and useful service. Please note that the commode shows some signs of restoration at its back.
