A pair of 19th century French Anduze tall glazed garden urns
$6.900,00
A fantastic matching pair of “Vases d’Anduze’, originating from the town of the same name in the South of France, renowned for its pottery. Decorated in the traditional style with flower garlands and horizontal stripes, these beautiful artisanal vases were extremely popular, with the Orangerie of Versailles reputed to possess the most beautiful collection of all. These two date from the 19th century, and measure 85cm in height, and would have originally been planted with small orange, lemon or olive trees. Their distinctive colour comes from the glaze, which would have been applied in yellow, green and brown streaks, giving each vase a unique patina and colour. In keeping with their age and use, there are some chips and small areas of damage to the collar andpedestal, but this only adds to their character.
