18th Century Chinoiserie Table Mirror
$2.200,00
This unusual table-top ‘Psyche’ mirror dates from the 18th century, its wooden frame beautifully crafted from yellow-lacquered wood and decorated with hand-painted chinoiserie motifs all round. Mounted on a pivoted frame, which can be tilted at will to alter its viewing angle, this style of mirror was very fashionable in the period, and was often reserved for ladies’ boudoirs, where it offered a degree of convenience that had not been possible previously. The mirrored plate is original and has some foxing in places, which only adds to its antique character.
