Traditional French terracotta confit pot with two side handles. Half glazed in brown with a ‘flame’ design, this vessel would have been used to conserve food – mainly meats in fat – before the invention of refrigeration. It’s unglazed portion allowed it to be buried in the ground to keep it even cooler, and improve its food preservation properties.
