1850s Exceptional Rare Faience Dinner Service “Chevreuse” by Jules Vieillard

An exceptional and extremely rare dinner service of 92 pieces in fine French earthenware, made by the esteemed faience manufacturer Jules Vieillard of Bordeaux. The charming blue and white design is ‘Chevreuse’, which refers to an old-fashioned French peach variety, and features a series of blue monochrome printed motifs of rambling, floral clad branches set within ornate blue border edging. The set includes an assortment of dinnerware and serving pieces in an attractive and varied array of shapes and sizes, many with wonderfully ornate and shapely feet and handles, and each piece is stamped with the distinctive mark of the manufacturer on its base, which was in use between 1845 and 1895.In excellent vintage condition, with some staining and age-related markings on some pieces, and one dish with a staple repair.
