Bouillotte Table Lamp with Tole Lampshade
$2.600,00
19th century three-light ‘Bouillotte’ table lamp in gilded bronze and brass, with unusual swan’s head arms and a typical green lacquered metal (tole) shade. Designed in the empire style, the lamp features a baluster stem, with an attractive motif of acanthus leaves encircling the shade. Featuring a tall carrying handle, with a festoon ring, the lamp is adjustable in height by the ‘feather’ adjusting key on the neck.
The name ‘Bouillotte’ is derived from the popular 18th-century French card game of the same name, which was traditionally played on a round table. The adjustable height of this lamp served to diffuse the light from the candles below, in order to increase or subdue the light on the table, according to the players’ wishes.
Please note that this light fitting will need to be rewired according to your current electrical requirements.
