A persian “Saraband” rug, featuring a central, diamond-shaped medallion on a Herati-pattern background in tones of navy. The Herati motif takes its name from the city of Herat in north-western Afghanistan, and comprises a stylised rosette, enclosed in a diamond, with a serrated acanthus leaf along each side. Slanted ‘spandrels’ (triangular corner designs) frame the centre, and are highlighted in tones of deep red.
