Louis XV Marble Top Commode ‘Perruquière’, 18th Century

$4.800,00

A very fine Louis XV period console table, or ‘Perruquière’, featuring a design of inlaid precious wood veneers and opening with a single, wide drawer. Dating from the late 18th century, this classic cabinet stands on cabriole legs, and has a scalloped apron decorated with curved acanthus and straight-edge geometric motifs. The wide drawer, which would once have been used to store wigs, or ‘perruques’ (hence its name), features recessed side panels with delicate bronze pulls, and a matching wreath-shaped escutcheon at its centre. The drawer is simply and elegantly decorated with intricate geometric parquetry motifs, and each front corner is embellished with ornately cascading bronze mounts. The shaped top is of richly veined grey and white marble
