19th century Louis XVI ‘Commode Sauteuse’
$5.700,00
An exquisite, early 19th century Louis XVI style two-drawer ‘Commode Sauteuse’, with a white marble top and gilt bronze fittings. This curiously named style of commode always features two drawers perched on high legs, which gives the amusing impression that the chest of drawers is ready to jump (‘sauter’), like a frog. The chest is skilfully decorated in native wood veneers across both drawer fronts, each one featuring marquetry inlaid floral designs laid within geometric frames, and finished with neo-classical style bronze ring-pull handles and escutcheons. Resting on square, tapered legs terminating in bronze-capped, square feet.
