Paris Porcelain Wash Basin and Pitcher with Napoleonic Emblems
$3.750,00
An extremely elegant Paris Porcelain wash basin and pitcher dating from the First Empire Period, around 1815, and featuring as its decoration the emblems of the Emperor Napoleon himself: an eagle, bees, laurel wreaths and the capital letter ‘N’. The boat-shaped basin has a gilt rim and has a good depth to it, while the pitcher has a nicely curved tall handle and wide pouring spout, all embellished with gilt detailing. Originally a practical set, used for performing morning ablutions before the days of ensuite bathrooms and hot and cold running water, this does show some minimal signs of use, including a minor crack. A very handsome decorative addition, perfect, perhaps, for a gentleman’s bathroom.
