A stylish and petite Louis XV style two-drawer marquetry commode, with a curved front and sides and a shaped and polished grey-veined marble top. This very attractive chest of drawers is decorated throughout with intricate diagonally set veneers, and finely chiselled bronze ornamentation in the form of mounts on the front sides, front feet and apron, as well as very decorative drawer pulls and escutcheons (one key is present). Resting on slender cabriole legs, this commode bears the maker’s stamp of “CARTIE”, and is believed to date from around 1800.
