Napoleon III Style Decorative Fireside Chair
$1.400,00
An elegant 19th century Napoleon III period decorative fireside chair (chaise chauffeuse), its deep and comfortable seat cushion beautifully upholstered in a striking cream and bronze-coloured fabric, secured all round with a nail- head trim. The frame of this very feminine little chair is decorated with a shiny, black lacquered paint finish, and is embellished all over with hand- painted floral designs in luxurious gilt, with mother of pearl inlays on the exceptionally ornate seat back. The chair stands on four tapered legs, the front two being sabre-shaped and joined by a beautifully turned stretcher. A fireside chair was built with a comparatively low seat, so that the warmth of the fire could be better enjoyed on a chilly evening. This particularly beautiful example is in excellent condition and showcases a wealth of exceptional French craftsmanship.
