Pair of 19th Century Louis XVI Giltwood Side Chairs
$2.600,00
A matching pair of exquisitely gilded 19th century Louis XVI-style side chairs, with lightweight, caned oval backs and shaped and comfortable caned seats. The front legs are slender and carved, with fluted designs along their length and topped with rosettes, while the rear legs are tapered and sabre style. The oval seat backs are ornately framed with a delicately carved ‘twisted rope’ border, which culminates in a garlanded ribbon at the crest. These fabulous chairs were discovered in the master bedroom of a ‘Maison Bourgeoise’ in Draguignan, Provence, where they had been artfully placed on either side of a wonderful Louis XV commode. With nicely aged gilt, and some signs of use in keeping with their age, these distinctive chairs in their unrestored condition would make a wonderful addition to a stylish bedroom.
