19th C. Half-Glazed Cream Water Cruche with Lid
$600,00
A petite and very charming half-glazed water cruche, with side and top handle, spout and original lid. It would have originally been used to transport water to workers in the farm fields, keeping it cool and clean ready for drinking. Vessels that were half glazed, such as this one with its distinctive cream-coloured decoration, could be stored half-buried in the ground to keep their contents cool, the lower half left unglazed to prevent the colour peeling off. This beautiful and authentic piece of French country kitchenalia dates from the 19th century, and would look perfect today displayed with a collection of antique French pottery.
